Chevy’s most popular multitasking machine is going to come redesigned sometime next year. We are talking about the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck. The testing model has been spied somewhere in the snow, but the heavy camouflage prevents us from seeing the details. Still, in any case, the pickup truck will definitely go under the knife, and will likely get some new options under the hood.
Changes and Improvements
The 2019 Silverado 1500 will ride on so-to-say, a new-updated platform that will make it lighter and more efficient. Basically, it’s an all-new architecture, but it will keep carmaker’s distinctive features like the separated body and frame and a live rear axle, or rear- and all-wheel drive. On the other hand, the new chassis will significantly reduce truck’s weight and improve rigidity at the same time. This is due to Chevy’s extensive use of aluminum, which isn’t as comprehensive as Ford with F-150, but it’s very serious. The official figures are not official, yet the latest rumors suggest that the new generation Silverado 1500 should lose at least 300 pounds. Of course, the exterior and interior will get some cosmetic changes, but we are not able to see what’s new at the moment. Perhaps the camouflaged model features a little bit more pronounced front bumper and larger headlights, but this isn’t for sure, so we won’t speculate too much.
Engine and Transmission Options
Under the hood, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will get a new base unit. It’s an efficient turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 272 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. As for the 4.3-liter V6, the option will be upgraded, so the new output should be around 300 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque. The carmaker has no plan to boost V8 mills, but the lighter body and new 10-speed automatic transmission will make it more efficient without any doubt. Of course, the eight-speed auto gearbox and rear-wheel drive will be standard options.
The 2019 Silverado 1500 will come totally redesigned and definitely better, but this won’t have any big influence on the starting price. Moreover, we expect to see the price tag at around $29,000. On the other hand, the topper will likely go over $60,000.
