Chevrolet introduced the 2018 Equinox RS crossover in China a few days ago at the 2017 Chengdu Motor Show. The vehicle will almost definitely be offered in North America pretty soon. However, we have to say that we don’t see the point of adding “RS” badge to the regular model.
Yes, the 2018 Chevy Equinox RS features the same engine as the non-RS model. Moreover, it doesn’t add any performance detail at all. You can choose between 1.5-liter turbocharged or 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Though, we strongly recommend the 2.0-liter mill because it offers enough power (252 HP) and uses a smooth-shifting nine-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The base 1.5-liter option is not just less potent (170 horsepower), but it also uses a six-speed auto gearbox.
While it gets no performance changes under the hood, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox RS sports “performance” styling. The special treatment is so visible inside and out. From the outside, the SUV features black-treated Chevrolet logo, door handles, rear nameplate, and grille surrounds. In addition, there are special dark-painted wheels with silver accents. Except for the black-painted model, the 2018 Equinox RS offers a red treatment with pretty much the same details.
The vehicle is already available across the China and costs from $33,158 to $37,661, depending on engine and level of equipment.
