2018 Nissan Terra: All-New Navara-Based 7-Seat SUV Caught In China

Nissan’s Navara NP300 pickup truck has finally got a long time rumored SUV sibling. The all-new seven-seat body-on-frame SUV has been spotted somewhere in Chine without any camouflage. Judging by the rear-end badge, the vehicle is going to be named the 2018 Nissan Terra. In China, the SUV will replace the slow-selling Paladin, which is actually the Xterra.

As you can see, the all-new large SUV will have a lot in common with Nissan’s mid-size truck. Moreover, the influence is so strong that we can’t see anything new, especially in the front. The 2018 Terra features the same grille and headlights, while the bumper sports a few different details. The rear end looks pretty usual for this kind of vehicle. It’s flat and wide, which is always the winning combination for generous cargo space. Though, the taillights and chrome bar in the middle are pretty nice details.

The 2018 Nissan Terra will be a significantly larger option than the Xterra. If we have the right information, the all-new SUV measures 4882mm long, 1850mm wide, 1835mm tall, and rides on a 2850mm wheelbase. As you can see, it’s longer and wider, plus the wheelbase is stretched for exactly 150mm, which is the reason to believe that there will be enough space for all passengers, regardless of the fact where they sit.

According to the information we have, the Chinese Terra SUV is using a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine. The unit delivers 183 horsepower which is 137 kW. The power goes either to rear- or to all four wheels. The Japanese carmaker will definitely add a 2.3-liter dCi turbodiesel engine with 158 hp (118 kW) and 187 hp (140 kW), yet some reports claim that there might be some hybrid option in the near future as well.

Nissan hasn’t provided any information on whether the body-on-frame SUV could arrive in North America, but we are sure it’s going to become available sometime later. Though, the U.S.-specs Terra might get a more potent engine under the hood, as well as some other name.
