Peugeot’s HR1 concept will definitely reach production facilities during the next year. We know because we caught a testing mule of the all-new three-door crossover on its first testing outdoor. The mini SUV which will be introduced as the 2018 Peugeot 1008 is using the body of the current 208, but that’s okay because we know what’s cooking.

Aside from it’s going to feature just three doors, the future high-riding vehicle from Peugeot will also get pretty much the same styling cues as the aforementioned concept. Still, the manufacturer won’t keep HR1’s outlandish doors. Instead, they will stick to the conventional entrance. As for the testing mule, it reveals a pretty high ride suit, which makes us wonder whether the carmaker plans to go with the 1008 model off-road. That’s not going to happen of course because the crossover will use the same platform as the 208, which is absolutely unsuitable for off-road maneuver. The spotted model also features quite pronounced plastic wheel arches, but that’s just for test purposes, so we can’t say anything more regarding the exterior.

What are we know for sure is that the French carmaker plans to fit the crossover with a range of three-cylinder turbocharged engines, both diesel, and gasoline. The units will supply front wheels only via either a standard manual or optional automatic transmission.

It’s too early to know when the carmaker plans to introduce its tiny crossover. However, since it’s in an early phase of development, we expect that there at least a year of dedicated work before we see the all-new 2018 Peugeot 1008.
