2018 RAM 3500-HD Diesel Sports 930 Pound-Feet of Torque and 30,000 Pounds of Towing

Ram’s most potent oil-chugging pickup truck has been updated for the next year. The vehicle features just a few slight cosmetic changes from the outside and nothing new inside. However, the producer significantly improved pickup’s powertrain, which is basically the most important part of the 2018 Ram 3500HD Diesel. Still, do not get too excited, because the change refers to the topping option only.

The full-fledged truck will still use its 6.7-liter Cummins diesel. However, instead of today’s 900 lb-ft of twist, the 3500HD will feature 930 pound-feet of torque. The manufacturer hasn’t specified how many ponies will have the updated option, but we suppose it’s going to stay on today’s 385 horsepower. This additional 30 lb-ft will push pickup’s towing capacity to 30,000 pounds.

Though, that refers to the producer’s fifth-wheel hitch. Believe it or not, the feature increases towing for 5,000 pounds. Still, you have to know that the new fifth-wheel hitch design costs an additional $1395. It’s also very interesting that Ram and Cummins made the torque increase together, so it’s going to be exclusively available under the hood of the range-topping 2018Ram 3500HD Diesel. The option sports a unique gearbox as well. The oil-burner mill is mated to an amazing Aisin six-speed automatic transmission, which adds $2,695 to price.

As we said, styling changes for Ram’s Heavy Duty pickup truck are almost invisible. The vehicle sports just a new front bumper with more air intakes and nothing more. The interior, on the other hand, has nothing new to offer.

As for the other two types of diesel, they will stay completely unchanged. The starting option will host an old 6.7-liter inline-six turbodiesel with 350 hp and 660 lb-ft, which will power truck’s rear and all four wheels via a six-speed manual. In the middle, the potential buyers will be able to get the pickup with the same engine, but this time with 370 horsepower and 800 pound-feet. However, the motivation will go through the 68RFE six-speed automatic transmission.
