“The 2018 Volkswagen Amarok is coming in North America!” Well, this isn’t the first time we hear this rumor and we are pretty sure it won’t be the last time as well. Although truly amazing, the pickup truck has pretty small chances to reach US showrooms, because of Volkswagen emissions scandal. Yes, the Amarok is a diesel truck, and VW’s oil-burners are not so popular in North America at the moment. In any case, we would be delighted to see the outstanding vehicle and here is why:
Amarok’s base model uses a 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine that’s capable of reaching 161 horsepower. In case you need more power there is the optional truck that uses a re-tuned V-6 turbodiesel, which delivers around 221 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that will send power to either rear or all four wheels. Truck’s top speed is limited to 120 mph, while it needs around 8 seconds for a 0-60 sprint.
Styling changes are not that big as we expected, but they made the 2018 Volkswagen Amarok very handsome. The new front-end design features a completely redesigned grille with two slats and a pair of new headlights along with LED daytime lamps below. The carmaker added larger intakes and fog lamps, which make the front end more attractive. The pickup now rides on bigger 20-inch wheels that sport upgraded brake system.
The manufacturer hasn’t skipped the chance to make some important changes inside as well. VW’s truck got a completely new dashboard and infotainment system, as well as significantly better seats. Yes, you will enjoy sitting in the front because of 14-way ergoComfort adjustment, which makes seats suitable for everyone.
If the carmaker really decides to offer the 2018 VW Amarok in North America, the pickup should be priced around $29K.
