Volkswagen’s new generation CC has been spotted once again, but this time with less camouflage. Judging by the spy shots, the interesting sedan will definitely use most of the styling cues from the amazing Sport Coupe GTE concept, which was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva auto show. Except of the totally redesigned exterior and interior, the 2018 Volkswagen CC will also get different platform, as well as some new engine options, or more precisely the outstanding plug-in hybrid powertrain from the aforementioned concept.

The upcoming 2018 VW CC will ride on highly-stretchable MQB platform, which will significantly contribute to the interior space. In total, the sedan will get just one inch in length, but in place of the current 107 inches of the wheelbase, there will be 119 inches. Thais will make the cab more cozy and spacious without any doubt.

Car’s exterior will be totally redesigned and really interesting. The manufacturer will bring more dynamic in the front end which will also feature concept’s headlights and interesting radiator grille. The lightening cluster will be notably smaller from the current, but it will sport LED treatment all around. In addition, the rear hatch will be more aggressive, and will borrow all the details from the Sport Coupe GTE.

Under the hood, the US-specs 2018 Volkswagen CC will likely continue to use both current engines. This means you will be able to choose between the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 200 horsepower and a 3.6-liter V6 unit with 280 hp. However, except of these two rather familiar engines, the carmaker might offer an amazing plug-in hybrid option too. The powertrain uses a 3.0-liter engine and two electric motors, which is enough for 374 horsepower. The system works with all-wheel drive only, which is quite logical because one helps DSG dual-clutch transmission, while the second powers the rear axle. Some rumors indicate that the car could get the smaller hybrid too. Reportedly, the drivetrain consists a 1.4-liter engine and just one electric motor, which will be integrated with the gearbox too.
