Audi’s second-generation Q3 has been caught testing. The production-ready prototype is still completely wrapped, but it provides more than enough information on what’s coming. The most noticeable change the crossover will receive is new measures. In case you can’t see here, the 2019 Audi Q3 will both longer and wider from its predecessor. That carmaker has decided on such a move because the current model can’t match today’s rivals at all. Both competitors from Germany, the BMW X1 and Mercedes’ GLA are significantly roomier. Plus, the A3 – a hatchback sibling – provides more space inside, which is almost ridiculous.
MQB platform, a new base engine, a hybrid, two high-performance models
Currently, the hatch is a far better option, but that’s going to change with the arrival of the 2019 Q3 without any doubt. Except it’s going to be larger in every direction, the SUV will also use a new platform. It’s the popular MQB architecture, which will improve the vehicle’s driving dynamics, make it lighter, and suitable for various engine options.
Speaking of which, the 2019 Audi Q3 will likely get a new base unit. It’s a 1.0-liter three-cylinder TFSI engine which pumps out up to 115 horsepower. Yes, we know that the mill won’t impress you at all. However, you will be able to choose some options like 1.4-liter TFSI or 2.0-liter engines, or even a topping 2.5-liter five-cylinder mill, which will power SQ3 and RSQ3 models. For diesel fans, the carmaker will prepare 1.5- and 2.0-liter oil-burners, while the hybrid Q3 should rely on the system that combines 1.4-liter TFSI and an electric motor. Front-wheel drive will stay standard, while Quattro stays optional. On the other hand, today’s six-speed auto should be replaced by a seven-speed dual-clutch.
