Guys from Autoevolution managed to catch a totally uncovered prototype of Audi’s topping sedan for the future. Now, either the carmaker forgot the cover the testing vehicle or they have a plan to introduce it in the coming months. Either way, say hello to the totally awesome 2019 Audi S8.
Although completely naked, the redesigned S8 isn’t suggesting what’s hidden beneath the hood. Still, the latest reports claim that the topper is definitely getting a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, which should be able to pump out more than 600 horsepower. Moreover, they suggest that there should be over 605 hp and 553 lb-ft. Of course, all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission will stay standard.
Still, in case you think that this could be the tip of the iceberg think again because the carmaker reportedly works on one more, more potent version. This so-called 2019 Audi S8 e-Tron will allegedly borrow the powertrain from Porsche’s Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. In case you don’t know, the drivetrain delivers 680 horsepower, enabling a 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds.
Autonomous Driving and new MMI
The engines are additionally boosted with a new architecture. Just as the regular A8, the new generation S8 will ride on the MLB Evo platform. Plus, it’s going to sit a slightly lower to the ground and equipped by a quartet of performance-oriented tires. The new architecture will host new-generation electronic driving aids, including a Traffic Jam Pilot, which allows true hands-free driving up to 37 mph. The cab will rely on the new generation Audi’s MMI infotainment system. The infotainment adds the second touchscreen.
Even though we originally thought that the topping flagship won’t arrive this year, the uncovered prototype says otherwise, so who knows, perhaps the all-new S8 comes at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. If not, the all-new 2019 Audi S8 will arrive early next year.
