Does the world need one more crossover? Well, we don’t know, but we do know that it’s getting one all-new high-riding vehicle from Cadillac. The American car manufacturer is currently doing some serious testing in the snowy Finland, and the SUV you see here is the future compact crossover, which will be named the 2019 Cadillac XT4.
The producer claims that it’s building a worthy rival to the German’s automakers. This means that the future XT4 should fight in the premium class, which includes really cool vehicles such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
However, if you want our opinion, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will be just one more “chewing gum flavor”. It’s pretty disappointing for us to see almost identical exterior styling as it currently features the mid-size XT5. Both front and rear ends are pretty much the same, as well as C-pillar and bumpers.
As for the rest of the car, well those parts are not borrowed from the XT5, but they are still borrowed. Yes, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will share the same architecture with the Chevy Equinox and GMC’s Terrain. The crossovers are using so-called D2XX platform that’s highly stretchable, lightweight, and adjustable to a number of different powertrains. Some reports even claim that the carmaker prepares a hybrid drivetrain for the future compact crossover, but we won’t go that far.
No, we are sure it’s going to have a 2.0-liter turbo with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Since it will be sold in Europe, the producer might also reconsider adding a small 1.5-liter turbo that pumps out up to 170 ponies and a 1.6-liter diesel. The oil-burner comes with “just” 136 hp, but also reaches 236 pound-feet of torque, which is impressive for this kind of vehicle. The smaller engines will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the topping model should use a nine-speed auto transmission. The SUV will use a standard front-wheel drive, but you will be able to choose all-wheel drive setup as well.
According to the latest rumors, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will be introduced in early 2018. The starting price will be above $30,000 without any doubt, while the topper might go up to $43K.
