2019 CADILLAC XT4 PLUG-IN HYBRID: SPY SHOTS AND RUMORS ABOUT POWERTRAIN

We have seen a prototype of Cadillac’s smallest SUV already, yet never this kind of prototype. Even though it’s completely camouflaged, this one significantly differs from everything we have seen so far. You can’t figure out what’s different, do you? Well, it’s actually quite simple. The vehicle you are looking at is actually the 2019 Cadillac XT4 Plug-in Hybrid.

You must be asking yourself how we can be sure that this is a plug-in hybrid SUV. If you look very close, you will see a separated piece of the camouflage on the front left fender. Well, the camo almost definitely hides a charging port.

As for the rest of the styling, we can’t figure out much, but we spotted a mesh grille and pretty aggressive headlight treatment. Below, the luxury crossover should get a pretty big opening for airflow, as well as attractive fog lamps. The stylish design isn’t the only thing that will set apart the XT4 from the competition. No, Cadillac’s all-new crossover also features a class-leading footprint that should enable plenty of room inside.

So what do you think, what this one extra fuel flap could bring on the table? Well, no one knows for sure what the carmaker prepares, yet we think it might add a familiar powertrain under the hood of the 2019 Cadillac XT4 Plug-in Hybrid. Moreover, we are pretty sure that the crossover is getting the same setup that uses the CT6 sedan. It pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors that draw power from an 18.4-kWh battery. The overall output is limited to 335 horsepower and 432 lb-ft of torque. However, in contrast to the gasoline model that will get a new nine-speed automatic, the plug-in hybrid will be mated exclusively to a CVT gearbox.
