2019 DODGE JOURNEY WILL SHARE THE PLATFORM WITH ALFA’S STELVIO SUV

Dodge’s SUV lineup is going to change dramatically. The car manufacturer plans to move the production of the next generation Journey to Italy. Of course, except the new address, the interesting vehicle will likely receive some of Alfa’s genes. More precisely, the 2019 Dodge Journey will share its new bones with the all-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV.

Actually, the architecture of the future Journey isn’t totally new. This is a modified version of the rear-wheel-drive Giorgio platform, which is originally introduced with the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. Of course, in addition to the standard RWD, the next Dodge Journey will also offer the optional all-wheel drive.

The chassis won’t be the only thing that will Dodge’s crossover borrow from the new Stelvio. The carmaker will likely add the same engines as well. The base model will definitely use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit with 276 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. As for the range-topping 2.9-liter mill with 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of twist, well, it might arrive is the carmaker decides to introduce the performance-oriented model. An eight-speed automatic will be the only available transmission.

Dodge’s future mid-size crossover sport utility vehicle will completely change the exterior styling. We don’t think that the 2019 Dodge Journey could look like Alfa’s Stelvio, but it’s quite clear that the exterior design must receive something new. The Dodge will keep Dodge’s “face”, but it should look a lot softer than now.
