2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel Spied Underneath

This is a prototype of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel. Our photographer managed to catch the truck underneath, so we have a clear picture of what’s happening. Judging by the shots, the testing vehicle is using a diesel engine and a completely new suspension. However, this is not strange at all, because the new generation Sierra is getting new bones as well.

The new platform is said to be lightweight. Still, we are pretty sure it’s not going to be as light as Ford’s. Instead, the half-ton truck will use aluminum for some parts only. The carmaker will not stop there. Aside from it’s going to use mixed materials, the 2019 Sierra 1500 will also improve frame strength, and both payload and towing capacity. Plus, the vehicle’s fuel economy figures need to go up. The task isn’t easy at all. However, the pickup will host a number of changes that will raise efficiency, including new engines and some already proven systems such as start/stop system.

As for the oil burners, it’s not quite clear what’s cooking under the hood of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel. Judging by the information we have, there will be several diesel options offered. The truck will almost definitely get a 4.5-liter diesel V6. Still, it’s not clear what’s going to be the second option. As far as we know, they will either use an updated 2.8-liter four-cylinder oil-chugging that’s reportedly going to receive turbocharger and injectors, or Navistar 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel. If you want our opinion, we would place our bets on the improved 2.8-liter mill. Anyway, the truck will also receive a new 10-speed automatic transmission, which is a reason more to believe in a far better fuel economy. For gasoline fans, GMC has prepared a new V6 turbocharged, which will also boost the MPG. Plus, they might bring a mild-hybrid system as well.
