So what do you think about the orange SUV? Do you know which one high-riding version of Mercedes you are looking at the moment? This is a long-time-rumored Baby G-Class SUV. However, there is something strange going on here: the vehicle is not looking like the iconic off-roader at all. No, it’s more like the GLS-Class, which is not the worst thing that could happen. This so-called 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB is spotted without any camouflage because it’s going smashed against the wall. Yes, the carmaker has to check out whether the crossover is good enough to satisfy a five-star Euro NCAP rating. If not, the carmaker will have to change something.

Anyway, we are not here for the test, but to check out the design of the 2019 Mercedes GLB. The all-new SUV looks robust and quite boxy, which is not the case with the majority of new models from Mercedes. The approach seems refreshing because there are more than enough sleek, sexy, and sporty models. We would like something, well, something different this time. The front end is totally unique, while the rear should be pretty flat. This may enable enough room for a class-leading cargo and more than enough space for all five passengers. We are not saying that Mercedes has a plan to add the third row of seats inside, but the MFA2 platform which the GLB uses allows that.

The platform is basically front-wheel-drive-based, but higher trims will likely have an optional all-wheel-drive. Of course, the “vanilla” AMG model will rely on AWD only. Still, before the manufacturer decides to add the high-performance model they will introduce a range of gasoline and diesel models, as well as one or even two plug-in hybrid drivetrains. Basically, engine options of the all-new SUV will mirror the A-Class.

The interior will, on the other hand, be more upscale. The carmaker will use Mercedes’ new MBUX infotainment system and dual-touchscreen displays, as well as some awesome safety equipment including Active Lane Change Assist and Active Emergency Stop Assist, and even Active Distance Assist. The manufacturer won’t miss the chance to offer ambient lighting inside, though we can’t wait to see upholstery treatment and all special details that Mercedes simply loves to add to the completely new cars.

Stay tuned for updates. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB won’t arrive before early 2019, so we should find out more info about the interesting SUV.
