We are not sure whether we are looking at the Toyota Auris, Corolla Hatchback, Corolla iM, or some kind of Scion, yet something is definitely happening. If we have the right information the Japanese car manufacturer is testing the all-new 2019 Toyota Auris. The 5-door compact is totally camouflaged, so we can’t really say what’s happening beneath. Still, the latest reports suggest that the car is getting new technologies and platform.
New Platform and Engines
The new-generation Auris will ride on the same platform as the new Prius and C-HR crossover. This so-called Toyota New Global Architecture provides more options under the hood. We expect an updated version of the current 1.8-liter four-cylinder hybrid. Though, the compact will host the improved 1.2-liter turbo and a more potent 1.5-liter turbo. All options are going to be paired with an all-new CVT. This particular prototype is using a manual gearbox, but the option will not be available with every option. Instead, the 2019 Auris manual should be offered exclusively with the 1.2-liter unit.
Better Looking Exterior and Upscale Interior
The camouflaged prototype sports pretty much the same footprint as the predecessor. The exterior, however, is totally redesigned. The hatch is featuring more aggressive front end and hood, while the bumper seems to be very massive. The 2019 Toyota Auris will likely host the same headlights and taillights as the C-HR crossover. The testing prototype has shown its cabin (at least a part of it). The dashboard sports a large infotainment display, while below, the hatch gets climate controls. The overall interior design seems more upscale at the first glimpse from the current one, but that’s not too hard because today’s model is pretty outdated.
The redesigned Toyota Auris or Corolla iM will be introduced in the second half of 2018.
