2019 Volkswagen Passat: Facelifted Sedan Spotted Uncovered In China

This is not the first time we’ve spotted a testing prototype of Volkswagen’s popular mid-size sedan, but it’s definitely the first time we a completely undisguised 2019 Volkswagen Passat. The vehicle has been caught in China a few days ago. This so-called B8 model is available since 2014, which means that the automaker needs to make certain changes and improvements for harsh battles in the occupied segment.

Judging by the shots of the Chinese-specs Passat, the popular sedan will definitely look better than the current one. That’s thanks to the almost totally new front end, which is basically the perfect combination of Arteon’t and Touareg’s faces. The headlights are not drastically changed, but they’ve been tweaked too. On the other side, the 2019 Volkswagen Passat is featuring a pair of taillights with new graphics and the name of the model integrated into the chrome on the trunk lid. The lower section of the bumper hosts a different exhaust system form today’s, but we are pretty sure that the model shows fake pipes. It’s pretty much the same story with wheels. These can’t be real; they are too small in comparison to the car’s wheel wells.

The 2019 VW Passat won’t get as comprehensive makeover inside as it’s the case with the exterior. Instead, the refreshed sedan will get a few tweaks here and there, as well as new infotainment systems that will mirror the new Golf. In case you thought that the carmaker could reconsider the all-new and awesome Innovision Cockpit of the 2019 Touareg, we have to inform you that this is not going to happen for sure.

Volkswagen will definitely offer something new under the hood. Don’t get us wrong; most of the options will stay untouched or slightly updated, but there must be at least one new powertrain in the offer just to spice up things a little bit. Some reports (although highly suspicious) claim that the German car manufacturer could add a 400-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 for the range-topping R. If you want our opinion, well, we would be delighted to see a 300+ hp model in the offer. Though, there will be nothing wrong if the carmaker adds 400 ponies under the hood of the vanilla Passat.

This, the Chinese Passat is will probably stay faithful to today’s trio of options that include a 1.4-liter turbocharged unit that develops 110 kW and a 2.0-liter TSI which gets two disposals: 137 and 162 kW. All options are mated strictly to the seven-speed DSG transmission. In Europe, however, the offer is better thanks to a 2.0-liter turbo diesel mill and GTE plug-in hybrid. The later one will reportedly provide more electric miles, but let’s wait for the officials to say something about the update.
