An updated Passat wagon has been spied testing on snowy weather a few days ago. The car which is going to be introduced nearly next year as the 2019 VW Passat Variant seems to be coupled with very few exterior changes.
Even though the camouflage covers both ends, we highly doubt that there will be too many new details beneath the camo. Instead, the front end might feature just a slightly updated grille, perhaps reshaped air intakes, and nothing else new. The headlights are clearly identical to the current one, which would not be the case with the taillights. Instead, they seem to feature new graphics. Of course, the carmaker will not skip the chance to add a few new paint options and perhaps new wheel design, but that’s pretty much everything the 2019 Passat Variant is going to get from the outside.
The cabin, on the other hand, will be almost totally carried over. Although some reports claim that the refreshed Passat is going to be fitted with the Innovision Cockpit, this is not going to be the case. Instead, the wagon will get just an updated infotainment and nothing else new.
The manufacturer will definitely kill the existing 1.4-liter TSI. In place of it, Volkswagen will put the new and amazing 1.5-liter TSI that’s going to pump out 130 horsepower. In case you are wondering what’s so special about it, you have to know that the option uses active cylinder management that shuts down two cylinders between 1,400 to 4,000 rpm and while the car is doing up to 81 mph. According to the manufacturer, the engine delivers a diesel-like fuel economy, so we believe it’s the perfect choice for the 2019 VW Passat Variant. On the other hand, we have no idea what’s going to power the vanilla Passat R. Some sources claim that the manufacturer prepares a V6 for the occasion, but don’t hold your breath yet, because that’s still not confirmed.
