2019 Workhorse W-15: Price, Design, Powertrain, Features, Images

Workhorse is working on its electric pickup truck right now. The first-ever of the kind will be introduced this year, probably in fall, so it should hit the dealerships early next year. Still, it’s very important to mention that there are almost 6,000 reservations at the moment and the people that have placed their $1,000 refundable deposit already will get their 2019 Workhorse W-15 first. Though irrespective it’s the first production electric pickup truck we really don’t expect too much crowd because the starting price2019 Workhorse W-15 should be over $50K. There’s the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, but this is still too much compared to the regular models of the same size.

In any case, the 2019 Workhorse W-15 is going to use a two-motor powertrain. Each motor will be paired with one axle in order to provide an all-wheel-drive configuration that delivers 442 horsepower. The power comes from Panasonic lithium-ion battery cells. The cells are arranged in a pack between the rails of the frame. According to the carmaker, the truck will be able to travel up to 80 miles on a single charge. The range is drastically increased with the help of BMW’s small 1.5-liter three-cylinder motor. By using it, the truck increases range to 310 miles, which is more than enough.

As you can see, the production model is not going to look exactly like the concept. No, the carmaker added a pair of different bumpers and a new grille, as well as totally new lines around headlights and taillights. They’ve also stretched the 2019 Workhorse W-15 for a few inches in order to increase space inside. The additional length is here to make the second row of seats more comfortable, while everything else stays untouched including a 6.5-footbed. The cab will probably lack an analog cluster. Instead, the producer will use digital monitors, and a large infotainment touchscreen which will be touch-sensitive on glows too. The standard equipment list is pretty long, so we want to underline just the most important features: automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, and a backup camera.
