We’ve caught a prototype of what appears to be the 2020 Acura TLX Type S while it was testing in Europe. The high-performance TLX returns after several years of retirement and we can’t wait to see what the carmaker intends. More precisely, we are dying to find out what’s beneath the hood.
Unofficially, the new-generation TLX Type S is going to be mated to a really powerful powertrain. More precisely, the car will use a detuned version of the NSX system, which will reportedly deliver around 400 horsepower. Some other reports claim that the automaker works on an all-new turbocharged V6 that’s not going to be available with Honda models. The mill will also be capable of delivering 400+ ponies. No matter which one engine option the 2020 Acura TLX Type S gets, it will definitely be paired with manufacturer’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system and the 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
Styling-wise, the outstanding “vanilla” entry-level luxury sedan will definitely host a sporty kit. The camouflaged prototype shows the massive quad exhaust pipes, side skirts, and a diffuser. It’s also paired with larger wheels and low-profile tires, while we largely expect a special suspension system. Of course, the wheels will be coupled with a high-performance braking system. Since it gets the heavy camouflage in the front, the 2020 Acura TLX Type S will most definitely get some additional air intakes and possibly hood bulges. In addition, right below the grille, the car hosts something that seems to be an intercooler. This means that the car definitely uses a turbocharged engine.
According to the latest reports, the 2020 TLX Type S will most probably make its official debut early next year at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. The price is rumored to hover somewhere around $50K.
