2020 Audi A5 Sportback Gets A Mid-Cycle Update

It’s not any secret at all that Audi currently works on an updated A4 model. The car has been spied testing on several occasions so far, so we think we know pretty much everything about the update. There’s hearsay that the German automaker prepares a comprehensive makeover for the 2020 Audi A5 Sportback as well. Guess what? The word on the street turns out to be the truth. Yes, we just spotted the testing prototype on snowy roads somewhere in Scandinavia.

As you can see, the more attractive model gets pretty much the same changes as the A4. Upfront, the refreshed Audi A5 Sportback seems to feature a flatter grille and refreshed headlights, as well we an updated bumper. However, the honeycomb grille has no touch points with the A4’s grille. No, this one will be far more attractive. As for the headlights, they are definitely full-LED. The prototype shows restyled fenders too, while the rear end hides quite interesting LED taillights and redesigned exhaust tips. So far, sides of the car point out just the sharper creases on the door sills, but it’s fair to expect a new wheel design when the production model arrives. Since we are talking about an update, it’s fair to expect a few new exterior colors as well.

We haven’t seen the cabin of the updated 2020 Audi A5 Sportback at the moment, but we largely hope to see changes that mirror the A6 and A7 models. Meaning, the automaker won’t only use more upscale materials such as new leather and Alcantara upholstery; it will also employ updated multimedia that will come hooked to either standard 8.8-inch or optional 10.1-inch screen with MMI Navigation Plus. The vehicle will most probably add Audi Virtual Cockpit display, as well as a wireless charging pad, and some available features like quite interesting voice recognition and personal route assistant.

Power-wise, the entry-point 2020 A5 Sportback will use a 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine. The manufacturer will reportedly introduce the A5 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid too. The electrified model should combine a 188-hp turbo-four with a front-mounted 108-hp electric motor. While the internal consumption engine gets the chance to power the front axle, the electricity will spin rear wheels. Of course, this one will be able to move “green” so-to-say. Unofficially, the electric-only drive range is going to be over 50 miles, which is a quite respectable result. As for the V6, the potent and more expensive option has been speculated to receive a mild-hybrid aid in the form of a 48V system. Still, at this point, we can’t say whether this is going to happen or not.

Do we need to say that there will be no manual gearbox? Of course not, since the feature doesn’t exist any longer irrespective of the Audi model you want to buy.

The mid-cycle updated 2020 Audi A5 Sportback will be introduced either late this year or in early 2020.
