2020 Audi R8 GT Spotted Testing, Gets 640 Horespower

Even though some reports say otherwise, Audi will not kill its flagship R8 anytime soon. Instead, the German car manufacturer will make a more hardcore variant for the future. We know that because we just caught a testing model that appears to be the 2020 Audi R8 GT. Still, this super, supercar, so to say, will last just a few years until they introduce an all-new and all-electric supercar.

As for the testing prototype, well, it sports a bit different ends. Upfront, the supercar seems to feature a new, wider and flatter grille. The headlights are slightly restyled too, as well as air intakes, which are going to be more angular in the future. Compared to the regular version, the R8 GT model will also host the new lip spoiler and new more extended side skirts. Around back, the supercar has the obvious and large oval exhausts and a new vent. The wheels are paired with an enlarged set of carbon-ceramic brake rotors, which is not surprising at all when we know what’s going to power the 2020 Audi R8 GT.

According to our sources, the supercar will squeeze off more power from the 5.2-liter V-10 engine. Instead of today’s 610 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, the same mill will deliver 640 hp and 442 lb-ft. We assume that because the same drivetrain delivers that much power under the hood of the new Lamborghini Huracán. The engine will be fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel drive. Read More

The carmaker will introduce a V6-based 2020 Audi R8 before the GT variant. Aside from it’s going to feature a different engine, the cat will host a bit toned down body kit. As for the powertrain, well it will host the same transmission which will be connected with a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 that delivers 450 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque.
