Even though it already has its full-size and mid-size SUVs, Cadillac is making one to put it in the middle, so to say. The famous automaker works on the three-row crossover that’s going to be luxurious and with seating places for 7 passengers, yet significantly cheaper from the flagship Escalade. While you can’t pay Cadillac’s “vanilla” SUV less than $75K, the upcoming three-row 2020 Cadillac XT6 will start at $50K.
Judging by Automotive News, the all-new SUV will make its first appearance at the next year’s Detroit Auto Show in January. This also means that the carmaker will have to do final tests soon, so we might catch the XT6 without camouflage before the official debut.
So far we’ve seen completely wrapped testing models, which don’t give away a lot. Still, the camo doesn’t hide the crossover’s profile, so we are able to see the sleek and low roofline. The lines promises a more attractive design from XT5’s without any doubt. The exterior design will be additionally spiced up with an Escala-based front end. The most dominant details in the front will be concept’s large and attractive grille and interesting horizontal headlights. Judging by the spy shots, the 2020 XT6 will feature pretty large cargo area. That’s so obvious thanks to the D-pillars that have a large forward rake. All the way in the back, the SUV shows a long rear overhang and unique taillights, as well as a pair of square-shaped exhaust pipes.
The new three-row crossover will ride on the longest version of General Motors’ C1XX platform. Both, the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave ride on the same architecture and both of them are exactly 204.3 inches long, so we assume that the 2020 Cadillac XT6 is going to have the identical length.
Unfortunately, the C1XX can’t support manufacturer’s new 4.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. Instead, the crossover will be offered with to V6 mills. The base model will use a 335-hp 3.6-liter naturally aspirated unit, while the topping option should be paired with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo that produces 404 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of twist. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive will be standard.
Aside it’s going to provide ample of room for seven passengers the cabin will also be coupled with automaker’s top-end tech, including CUE interface and a 10-inch display. Super Cruise and a video-streaming rear-view mirror will be standard parts of the SUV, while we expect high-quality materials only.
