Porsche will raise the stake in the luxury crossover coupe segment with an all-new vehicle. Porsche boss Oliver Blume confirmed the arrival of the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe for the next year. He didn’t say much regarding the future crossover, though we assume it’s going to be based on the third-generation Cayenne. Meaning, it will use the same platform, driving aids, and some of the familiar powertrains. Just don’t expect to see a 3.0-liter turbo unit under the hood, because the coupe-like Cayenne is going to be strictly performance-oriented SUV.
This means that the motivation for the base model is going to come from an amazing twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6. The engine will develop today’s 440 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of twist, which will force the smooth and sexy coupe to speed up from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.
The potential driver will be able to pick a V8 model as well. The model will get exactly 550 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of twist. Plus, the German carmaker won’t skip the chance to offer a hybrid powertrain which will most likely deliver 455 hp and an electric drive of around 30 miles. No matter which option you choose it will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. Of course, the advanced AWD system will be able the split power between wheels in the best possible way.
Porsche boss hasn’t revealed any styling information about the 2020 Cayenne Coupe, but we don’t have to be geniuses to figure out what’s going to happen. The carmaker will use the design of the third-gen Cayenne for sure. More precisely, the coupe version will host almost the same front end, but the totally different roof and rear hatch, which will feature some kind of fastback and liftback design.
The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe will fight against the BMW X6 M, Lamborghini Urus, Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR, and Mercedes-AMG GLE43 and 63 Coupes, so expect pretty much the same price range.
