2020 Volvo V60 R Replaces The Polestar Model

The new-generation Volvo V60 appeared and it’s an awesome wagon. However, we have this feeling that something lacks. Yes, the Polestar will no longer exist. Moreover, Polestar is going to act as a totally separated automaker which will produce some mean machines, so to say. The company is already taking orders for a 600hp strong Polestar 1 electrified coupe. Still, it’s not clear what’s going to be with the high-performance V60? Is it going to die or not? Well, judging by the spy shots the car is getting a new-gen treatment. Though, instead of the familiar Polestar, the Swedish car manufacturer has decided to use something else. The upcoming wagon will reportedly be named the 2020 Volvo V60 R and it’s going to be ready in around a year from today.

The R model will have to use something really impressive under the hood. We are positive that the drivetrain is going to be around 400 horsepower or even more because the 2020 Volvo V60 R has to be better than the current topping option. Bearing in mind that the most potent V60 uses the impressive T8 powertrain with 390 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of grunt, we are pretty sure that the R-treated wagon will pump out more. However, the Swedish automaker may decide not to use any electric aid under the hood. Instead, the vehicle could use an updated version of the current 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine. In any case, the mill will be paired to an all-wheel-drive which will get power via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Styling-wise, well, the 2020 Volvo V60 R gets the same footprint as the regular new-gen V60. However, the performance wagon seems to be closer to the ground thanks to a special suspension system. It also rides on larger wheels, which will definitely be paired with special, big brakes. The front end will allegedly have bigger air intakes and perhaps a slightly restyled grille, while everything else should mirror the regular V60. Around back, the Polestar successor will likely host completely a new exhaust system with two big oval pipes at both corners of the bumper. We are pretty sure that the manufacturer prepares something exclusively inside as well. Some Alcantara treatment in combination with sports seats will do the job don’t you agree?
