Ford definitely knows how to exploit its good deals. The recently redesigned Fiesta is getting its SUV version in the coming years. We are not talking about the Fiesta Active that’s been available already. No, Blue Oval intends to kill the EcoSport model in favor of an all-new and still unnamed high-riding model that will be heavily influenced by the Fiesta.
Even though it has been spotted testing already, we don’t know much about the 2021 Ford EcoSport replacement at the moment. As you can see for yourself, the camouflaged prototype doesn’t really reveal anything essential at the moment. Based on the spy shots, however, we can say that the new model features these days popular coupe-like design. Compared to the current EcoSport, the replacement seems to be larger as well. Still, the extra inches can’t guarantee cozier cabin, because the sloped roofline usually cut headroom in the back, as well as cargo space.
The 2021 Ford EcoSport replacement will be Fiesta-based SUV not only thanks to an identical underpinning but also due to pretty much the same options beneath the hood. Yes, the popular supermini will borrow the all-new SUV almost everything, including engines. However, it’s also important to mention that the unnamed model is also getting an electric powertrain as well. There’s no additional info about that at the moment, so we have to wait and see how good the EV is going to be. Anyway, since it uses the same platform as the Fiesta, the future subcompact SUV will use the same front-wheel drive for sure. Ford’s engineers will not forget to offer optional and more expensive AWD, though.
Stay tuned for updates.
