2018 Honda Cr-V Hybrid Ready for Europe

The Euro-specs 2018 Honda CR-V Hybrid is ready. The crossover will make its official debut in a few days at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show, but we have most of the details right now. What we don’t have is the information whether the SUV is coming to North American dealerships anytime soon or not.

Anyway, the 2018 Honda CR-V Hybrid will feature an all-new Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD). The amazing system uses an Atkinson-cycle 2.0L I-4 and two electric motors. Though, the motors are not working as we used to see. One is working as an electric motor, while the second is essentially an independent electric motor-generator. Honda saved lots of pounds by using a conventional gearbox in place of a single fixed gear ratio. However, they haven’t released any fuel-economy figures as we speak. On the other hand, they said there will be three drive modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive.

EV Drive will rely on electric power only. We can’t say how fast will the crossover go by using the mode, or how many miles of kilometers will be able to cross. However, we know that the SUV automatically fires the Hybrid Drive either the motor loses its power or you cross the speed limit. By using the Hybrid mode, the engine won’t power wheels. No, the power will supply the electric generator, which runs the electric motor, while all excessive power charges the battery. Judging by the carmaker, you won’t have to use the Engine Drive for city ride at all.

Except for the 2018 CR-V Hybrid, the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show will also host the regular gasoline crossover, which is using a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Honda has no plan to offer diesel and naturally aspirated units in the future.
