2018 Infiniti Qx50: Spy Shots and Redesign Details

It’s pretty clear now that the production version of Infiniti’s new generation Infiniti QX50 won’t differ too much from the concept. We know that because we managed to catch a prototype that seems to be ready for its official debut. The testing model is still carrying camouflage, so we can’t see the details, yet the shape indicates that there is something very similar to the recently introduced QX Sport Inspiration concept beneath.

According to our insiders, the 2018 Infiniti QX50 will use an all-new technology under the hood. More precisely, the carmaker will add a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is going to have an impressive compression ratio that will range from 8.0:1 to 14.0:1. The unit will be capable of producing 268 horsepower and 288 lb-ft of torque. This isn’t as powerful as the current V6, but it’s going to boost crossover’s efficiency for 27 percent, which is really impressive. We are not sure, yet the carmaker might also keep the 3.7-liter engine for the topper. In any case, regardless of the fact that it uses a rear-drive-based architecture, the SUV will come with an all-wheel-drive system only and automatic transmission of course.

Judging by the spy shots, the 2018 QX50 will largely look like the concept, especially in the front end. The camouflage hides the signature mesh grille and really sleek LED headlights. The dynamic lines are all over the crossover’s body, yet the sloping rooflines make it quite smooth. Around back, the carmaker added a new bumper that seems to be lowered and more massive from today. As you may notice, the taillights are also totally redesigned, while the prototype still uses testing wheels.

Nissan’s luxury division will also add a range of new technologies. The 2018 Infiniti QX50 will feature a fascinating ProPilot semi-autonomous technology, the same one that currently uses the Serena minivan. They will also make some important changes to the crossover’s infotainment system, which will have more options and a bigger touchscreen display. Of course, the manufacturer won’t skip the chance to add all-new upholstery and better quality materials all around.

The totally redesigned 2018 QX50 will arrive before the end of this year with the price tag of around $36K.
