As we reported back in October, the Chinese-market Buick Regal GS is poised to receive a refresh, which is slated to arrive for the 2021 model year. The new Regal will offer fresh and sporty styling paired with a turbocharged engine, but unfortunately, all that refreshed goodness won’t be making it to the U.S.
2021 Buick Regal GS are recently introduced Regal Sportback and Regal TourX models but skipped to add anything new from its “high-performance” department. We have to admit that we were pretty disappointed then, but now we know the reason why they decided not to bring anything more potent to the table. It’s actually pretty simple. A sporty GS variant isn’t missing at all. No, the car is scheduled to arrive sometime next year as the all-new 2021 Buick Regal GS Sportback. We know that because we managed to catch a testing model today.
The upcoming Regal GS Sportback won’t look too different from the regular sibling. Okay, there are certain styling tweaks like an all-new front bumper with more air intakes, but that’s everything new from the front. Around the back, the topper is using square-shaped exhaust tips, which you can’t see on the regular Regal Sportback, plus these wheels appear to be enlarged. Of course, the 2021 Buick Regal GS Sportback will feature a special suspension system and larger brake discs, as well as a unique interior treatment, which will point out the GS “spirit”.

Under the hood, the 2021 Regal GS Sportback will get a 3.6-liter V6 engine. The final output isn’t confirmed at the moment, yet we know that it won’t be below 308 horsepower. If the carmaker decides to use all available potential from the mill, then the all-new Regal GS may become a seriously fast car. After all, Chevrolet managed to squeeze out 335 horsepower from the same engine for the Camaro 1LE model.
