2019 Hyundai Kona Ev Spotted at Charging Station

We’ve spotted a totally camouflaged crossover from Hyundai today. The testing vehicle is reportedly the new electric vehicle, which will be introduced sometime next year. Our insider claims that the carmaker has no plan to introduce the all-new EV, but to add the option to one existing model. If this turns out to be the truth than this can be only the 2019 Hyundai Kona EV, meaning that the potential buyers could choose between gasoline, diesel, and electric versions in the near future.

According to the latest reports, the 2019 Kona EV will get two battery packs. The smaller 40 kWh battery will enable an electric range of around 200 miles. On the other hand, the topper will use a 64-kWh unit, which will allegedly be able to cross more than 240 miles. Both options will be mated to an electric motor capable of delivering 120 hp.

If everything goes according to plan, Hyundai will add a plug-in hybrid drivetrain in the coming year, while the latest rumors suggest that the Korean car manufacturer might also give a try with the hydrogen drivetrain.

As for the prototype, even though it’s totally covered, it should feature pretty much the same design as the rest of the Kona lineup. The producer might add some new paints, but that’s everything you can expect. Of course, since it has no classic combustion engine, the crossover doesn’t really need any kind of exhaust tips. Plus, Hyundai may add a closed-off grille as it did with the Ioniq EV.

Judging by the first estimations, the 2019 Hyundai Kona EV won’t cost over $40,000. However, if you don’t worry about nature overly, you can always choose the performance-oriented Kona N, which is also in the works. As for the electric SUV, it’s going to make its debut next spring at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
