Updated 2019 Kia Sportage SUV Spied Testing

Kia keeps its designer team busy all the time. Just when we thought that there is nothing else to be changed, redesigned or refreshed, the Korean car manufacturer has started tests of the updated 2019 Kia Sportage. This dynamic and weird-looking compact crossover is getting a new, hopefully, a prettier face and a slightly updated rear hatch. There’s not going to be too many changes inside. However, under the hood, the updated model will host a totally new technology, which will definitely improve SUV’s fuel economy numbers and reduce CO2 emissions.

To be more precise, the 48-volt hybrid system will save up to 20 percent of fuel in the future, while CO2 emissions should be lowered for at least 15 percent. The setup will come in a pair with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and most likely a 230-liter turbo that currently makes 240 horsepower. The base 2019 Sportage will, on the other hand, keep its today’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 181 horsepower and will be paired with a six-speed auto transmission. Of course, the crossover will be offered with a standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive.

As for the styling changes, well, the exterior updates are mostly limited to the ends. The crossover will host a slimmer-looking mesh grille, which will be basically the same as Stinger’s. The popular sedan will also give way to its handsome headlights, as well as square-looking air intakes. The rear end isn’t going to have as many changes as the front. No, the changes are limited to a pair of new taillight graphics and a slightly restyled rear bumper. The updated cabin should far better thank the Stinger again. The SUV will borrow the center stack and infotainment from the sedan, as well as some driving aids. More precisely, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment will be standard and paired with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On the other hand, a list of driving features will be enriched with adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist.

The refreshed 2019 Kia Sportage is not going to become available too soon. No, the Korean car manufacturer saves the compact crossover for the second half of the year and likely the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The price will slightly raise, though don’t expect anything over $25,500 for the base model.
