2019 Nissan Sentra: Redesign Changes and Rumors

Nissan perhaps pushed its compact sedan into the background, but that doesn’t mean that they have no plans for the car. No, the redesigned 2019 Nissan Sentra will reportedly come shortly after the Japanese carmaker introduces the all-new Altima. Bearing in mind who is the bigger brother here, it makes sense. In any case, the latest reports promise some radical changes, which will hopefully move the compact sedan for the current mediocrity into the very top.

Engine Changes

Today’s model is one of the less potent in the segment. The base model is limited to a 1.8-liter four-cylinder which coughs out just 130 horsepower. Things are slightly better with the optional SR Turbo Sentra as it delivers 188 ponies and 177 pound-feet, but neither of them can really shake the ground. As far as we’ve heard the 1.6-liter turbo from the SR model will move under the hood of the base 2019 Nissan Sentra. The vacant place will most likely be filled with a 2.0-liter turbo capable of producing 211 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of twist. Both options should be mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission, while the current six-speed manual gearbox should not be around when the 2019 Sentra arrives.

New Platforma and Design

Nissan will either update the current architecture or introduce the all-new. We vote for the new one because thus the compact sedan can host some kind of hybrid powertrain in the future. Either way, the car will likely shed some weight due to lighter materials. This will have a positive influence on the fuel economy of course.

In addition, the 2019 Nissan Sentra will get drastic design changes. The complete redesign will be most likely based on the larger Altima, so we will know more details when the mid-size sedan arrives. We would like to see at least a funkier exterior, and Nissan is the carmaker capable to create something interesting. The comprehensive makeover will bring plenty of new stuff inside as well. The outdated interior will host better quality materials and the latest technologies. But, of course, the base model will host a pretty limited number of standard features in order to stay below $18,000. Yes, the carmaker will allegedly keep it below the price tag, but to be frank, we are always for a slightly more expensive mid-trim.

The information about the 2019 Sentra is still rumor-based, but we can’t wait to see the first testing model, which should occur in the coming months. Stay tuned for updates.
