It’s not the first time we see a prototype of the fully redesigned Ram 1500, but it’s definitely the very first time we see the production-ready model without any camouflage. The manufacturer forgot to cover the prototype outside of the headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. At first glance, the redesigned workhorse features distinctive exterior styling, but when we looked closer, we figure out a number of changes, which make the 2019 Ram 1500 handsome and fresh.
The pickup truck hosts a smaller and shorter grille with plenty of chrome and a pair of new, modern headlights, which are definitely LED-treated. Both the hood and A-pillar are featuring more dynamic lines, while the rear end sports pretty clean tailgate design and totally unattractive taillights. The rear bumper is totally chromed, which is a plus because it looks quite interesting. Below, there is a pair of round exhaust pipes. We haven’t measured the prototype, but it seems to feature the same footprint as before. If this turns out to be the truth, then the 2019 Ram 1500 must-have fewer pounds from its predecessor. That’s due to a new architecture which employs more lightweight materials.
The aluminum-based body-on-frame platform will be able to host a range of new engine options, which will the new generation Ram 1500 definitely have. Still, even though we strongly believe that there will be some new mills, the pickup truck will likely keep some of the existing options as well. Our source claims that the current 5.7-liter V8 unit stays as it is now, while the base 3.6-liter V6 is getting a turbocharging technology for more power and better efficiency. In addition, the truck will get a diesel, also familiar and also upgraded. The oil-burner will reportedly enlarge both power and torque, which is really good news.

The latest rumors suggest that Ram works on the hybrid 1500 pickup as well. If it is the case, the vehicle won’t be available right away, simply because the redesigned truck is coming early next year at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
