2019 Toyota Corolla Spy And Specs

Toyota’s bestselling nameplate is about to receive an extensive redesign. While we already saw several prototypes of the hatchback model, this is the first time we spied the 2019 Toyota Corolla sedan. The testing model shows some interesting changes, while we have also found out what’s happening under the skin.

ENGINES

The new generation Corolla will ride on the TNGA platform, or more precisely on the C version. This so-called NGA-C architecture already underpins the new Prius and the new C-HR crossover. Except for the chassis, the 2019 Corolla sedan and hatchback will share the powertrain options. More precisely, the sedan will use a 1.2 turbo four-cylinder engine, as well as a more powerful 2.0-liter unit. On the other hand, the new generation Corolla hatchback will also get Prius’ hybrid setup. The drivetrain combines a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with a 53-kilowatt electric motor and provides a really impressive fuel economy, so it’s pretty clear why the Japanese carmaker wants to add this option to Corolla’s portfolio.

REDESIGN CHANGES

As for the styling changes, the sedan model seems to gets more muscles. The shoulders are notably larger, while the overall front end appears to be wider. These headlights on the testing model will be replaced with something more dynamic, so don’t worry about the ugly lightning cluster of the prototype. In addition, both the front and rear bumpers are more massive, while the new grille looks exactly like Prius’. Now, we are not so sure about the footprint, but judging by the spy shots, the redesigned Corolla will be a bit bigger than earlier. This will likely increase interior space and boost the car’s comfort.

The 2019 Toyota Corolla sedan and hatchback will be introduced sometime in 2018. The Japanese car manufacturer will continue to sell the model worldwide.
