2019 Volkswagen T-Roc R: Spy Shots, Engine, and Arrival

As you probably know, VW’s T-Roc mini SUV is not going to be available in North America. The crossover is not just interesting because of its small footprint and attractive design, but it’s also a high-quality high-riding vehicle that would definitely be very successful in the U.S., especially when the carmaker introduces the convertible version in the coming year. Still, if you think that the open-top model is going to be hottest available T-Roc, think twice because the manufacturer is making the high-performance 2019 Volkswagen T-Roc R too.

The vanilla option has been spotted testing a few days ago. The crossover is featuring a few clear signs which reveal its “wild” nature. In case you haven’t noticed, the 2019 VW T-Roc R gets a different front fascia with enlarged intakes and a bit redesigned grille. There are a few design tweaks in the back as well. The SUV hosts a small diffuser right between separated exhaust tips. Even though the testing prototype doesn’t show anything else new, we are pretty sure that the carmaker won’t leave the high-end without bigger wheels, performance tires, and beefier brakes. Plus, VW could “play” a bit with suspension too.

The 2019 Volkswagen T-Roc R will get Golf R’s engine for sure. The impressive 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 will most likely deliver 305 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. All the power will feed the all-wheel-drive system via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The high-performance T-Roc will be introduced later this year, most likely at the 2018 Paris Motor Show this October. The convertible option will, on the other hand, will have to wait for the 2019 year.
