Kia’s funky Soul compact crossover is definitely receiving a totally new “suit”. After we caught a testing prototype early this year at winter testing, the Koran car manufacturer decided to check out how the vehicle “dances” on hot weather. More precisely, they are testing the sporty 2020 Kia Soul Turbo model, which appears to have plenty of new details.
The camouflage maybe hides most of the crossover, but it reveals the most important details. As far as we see, the new-gen Kia Soul will not be bigger than the predecessor. The prototype reveals its sporty side thanks to a pair of center-mounted exhaust tips, while the camo partly covers the large boomerang taillamps. Upfront, the automaker decided to make the 2020 Soul Turbo more interesting with a full-width headlight design. The unibrow lights are LED-treated, of course. The grille appears to sit lower than before and gets some mesh design, while the crossover definitely kept its fog lamps.
The 2020 Kia Soul Turbo rides on a new, so-called SK3 platform. The architecture is front-wheel-drive, but it supports all-wheel-drive configuration as well. The Turbo will definitely use AWD, which will be connected to a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. The mill may be updated, so there could be more than 201 horsepower. Plus, some reports say that Kia reconsiders some kind of manual gearbox this time.
Kia hasn’t revealed any official date of arrival so far, but the redesigned crossover will make debut either late this year in Los Angeles or next January at the 2019 NAIAS.
