2020 Tesla Roadster Introduced: It’s The Fastest Car Ever And We Like It

The Tesla Roadster is back and it’s awesome. The sports car isn’t going to hit the auto market yet as it’s going to be introduced as the 2020 model, but the special event in California on Thursday hosted something nobody expected. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the 2020 Tesla Roadster will be the fastest car ever.

On Performance

It’s going to speed up form 0 to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds, while for a 0-100 mph sprint the car spends 4.2 seconds. The vehicle doesn’t stop here. No, Tesla also confirmed a quarter-mile time of an astonishing 8.8 seconds. Though, that does not wonder at all because the top speed should be over 250 mph. They haven’t said how many ponies will host the three-motor system that powers the 2020 Tesla Roadster, but they’ve mentioned that the car features 10,000 Nm of torque (7,375 lb-ft). We don’t know whether this is amazing or crazy, yet we can’t wait to find out how much horsepower is enough to back up these figures.

As for the three-motor system, one powers the front axle while the other two run the rear wheels, one for each motor. The system will use a 200 kWh battery which will enable the longest range ever. According to the manufacturer, the new-generation Roadster will be able to cross exactly 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) before it stops to be recharged.

On Styling and Features

That’s not all. In contrast to the predecessor that was limited to two seats only, the new sports car can host four people as it uses a 2+2 configuration. Still, the second row is pretty small, so don’t expect any kind of enjoyment over there. The glass roof is removable, but that doesn’t make the 2020 Roadster a cabriolet. No, it’s more like a Targa. The overall exterior design is smooth and sleek, which was expected because the car needs to be highly aerodynamic in order to achieve the aforementioned performance results. Inside, Tesla introduced some familiar cues. More precisely, the second-generation Roadster features an S-like central screen and airplane yoke-style steering wheel. The dash hosts two thin displays, one for the driver and one for the passenger.

Price and Reservation

Tesla is taking reservations over their website already. The base model will cost around $200,000, but the reservation deposit is $50,000 ($5,000 right away and $45,000 within 10 days). The topping Founders Series Roadster will be priced at $250,000, but it’s going to be limited to 1,000 pieces. In order to get one of the kind, you have to have all the money in 10 days from the day of reservation.
