Entry-Level 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Spied: This Bed Is Made Of Steel For Sure

“Something is rotten in the state of Denmark”! The totally redesigned GMC Sierra 1500 has been introduced earlier this year. Back then, the vehicle impressed everyone with shiny and chrome appearance; the first-ever carbon-fiber truck bed and a countless number of features, but this is not the case with the latest prototype. No, the entry-level 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 you see here shares just the basic lines with the topping Denali model which had been introduced back in January at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

As you can see, the entry-level 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is using plastic instead of chrome. The plastic is in charge of grille inserts, door handles, and window surrounds. Though, we have to be fair to say that the carmaker uses chrome for both, front and rear bumpers, grille surround, and mirror caps. The unique carbon-fiber bed with the amazing new MultiPro tailgate won’t be available with the base half-ton pickup truck. Instead, the prototype is fitted with the bed made of steel and the usual panel tailgate.

We have nothing official regarding the powertrain of the base model at the moment. Still, GMC said that the new-gen model will rely on three options: the gasoline 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s, and the diesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder. Assuming that the current base 4.3-liter V6 won’t be available with the new-generation GMC Sierra 1500, the entry-level model will have to rely on a 5.3-liter V8. The option is not going to exploit the all-new and amazing 10-speed automatic transmission. No, it will be mated to an 8-speed auto gearbox.

The carmaker hasn’t released any pricing information so far. However, we expect that the entry-level 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is going to cost just a bit north from $30K. Of course, the rest of the crew that currently includes Sierra 1500 Denali, SLT, and AT4 trims will be priced higher.
