Refreshed 2020 Mercedes E-Class Wagon Spied Testing A New Mild-Hybrid Powertrain

Mercedes’ updated E-Class Wagon has been spied testing twice over the week, which is a reason more to believe that the vehicle is going to make its official debut early next year. Based on the spy shots, the car is receiving cosmetic changes on the exterior, as well as a few updates inside of the cabin. Plus, our insiders claim that the model is going to host one new option beneath the hood.

Unofficially, the 2020 Mercedes E-Class Wagon is going to get an updated version of the existing engine. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill will reportedly deliver 255 horsepower instead of the current 241 ponies. The automaker will add a more powerful unit that made debut earlier this year under the hood of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. It’s basically a mild-hybrid system that combines a turbocharged 3.0-liter I6 and an electric motor that’s been sandwiched between the engine and 9-speed auto gearbox. Together, the drivetrain pumps out 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

Most of the exterior changes will happen in the front end. More precisely, the 2020 Mercedes E-Class Wagon will get CLS-based headlights and grille, as well as a slightly restyled front bumper. This testing vehicle is using the existing taillights, but we’ve seen another prototype with some camouflage over taillights. The new set of rear lights will reportedly be borrowed from the GLE-Class SUV.

Inside, the 2020 E-Class Wagon is going to feature a slightly restyled dashboard and new infotainment. According to the latest reports, the carmaker will replace the existing COMAND system with MBUX.
