U.S.-Specs 2019 Mazda CX-5 Gets A New Turbo Engine

The current compact SUV segment is one of the tougher in North America, so it’s not ant wonder at all why most of the carmakers are constantly improving their models. That’s the case with Mazda’s CX-5 model too. The vehicle has got a number of changes not so long ago and yet the Japanese automaker has something new in mind for the 2019 Mazda CX-5. No, the model is not going to feature any kind of cosmetic change. No, it’s getting something better. Judging by the report by the website The Truth About Cars and the certification document from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) they’ve somehow get, the crossover is definitely getting a new option under the hood, or perhaps even two.

The current CX-5 is limited to a 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder unit that develops 156 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque and a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated mill which produces 187 hp and 186 lb-ft. The 2019 model will, on the other hand, definitely add a more potent 2.5-liter engine that has been available with the Mazda6 and CX-9. The SkyActiv-G 2.5T will produce either 227 or 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of twist. It’s going to be paired with a 6-speed shiftable automatic that will send power to either front- or all-wheel-drive systems.

The second, though a less possible option, is a diesel engine. It’s a familiar and pretty good a 2.2-liter diesel unit that currently develops 175 horsepower and almost 320 lb-ft. After receiving new pistons and a variable geometry turbocharger the same oil-burner is going to be capable to produce 190 horsepower, which will reportedly be the actual output of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel.
