Wrangler Pickup Truck Is Actually The 2020 Jeep Gladiator

Jeep will most definitely introduce its Wrangler-based pickup truck at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show that starts in two weeks from now. The longtime awaited vehicle, however, is not going to be called Scrambler as everybody thought. Instead, the automaker decided to use a bolder nameplate for the workhorse. According to Jeep Scrambler Forum, the manufacturer will introduce the pickup truck as the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Do you see a bit of tragedy and comedy in the name of the forum? They should definitely look up for a new domain.

In addition to the surprisingly different name, the Wrangler-based pickup truck is not going to be as Wrangler-based as we thought. Don’t get us wrong: the 2020 Gladiator will overwhelmingly resemble the iconic off-roader, but it will also borrow certain parts from the new Ram 1500. More precisely, the automaker has decided not to use Wrangler’s rear suspension. Instead, the workhorse will borrow it from the Ram 1500. This way, the model will offer a bigger towing capacity and payload. Plus, the truck will host beefier axels than the SUV sibling.

The exterior styling, on the other hand, will be all-Wrangler in the front. Around back, the pickup will get SUV’s bumper, as well as a relatively short bed, which will hide a spare tire underneath. The cabin will also mirror the Wrangler, while we also expect the same engines.

The entry-level 2020 Jeep Gladiator will use the familiar 3.6-liter V6 with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. There will be an optional turbocharged 2.0-liter mill that pumps out 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of twist, as well as the awesome 3.0-liter EcoDiesel that has been limited to 260 ponies and 442 lb-ft of grunt. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard across the range.

Even though the automaker hasn’t set the price of the pickup so far, we are pretty sure that the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is going to cost around $35,000.
