2021 Buick Lacrosse Gets Hybrid Powertrain And New Nine-Speed Transmission

Buick’s awesome LaCrosse sedan came redesigned as the 2021 model. The car sports quite impressive features and a gorgeous design, so we were really surprised when we have found out that the manufacturer prepares something new for the 2021 Buick LaCrosse. However, the changes won’t have any influence on the sedan’s attractive exterior. Okay, there will be a couple of new colors, but nothing else. Instead, the big vehicle will get a new base powertrain and certain improvements for the existing V6 model.

Recently, Buick unveiled a massive and comprehensive update to its Chinese sedan portfolio. This update saw the debut of such 2021 vehicles as the Verano GS, Regal GS, and Excelle GT Mild Hybrid. Buick also took the opportunity to launch the 2021 Buick LaCrosse, the latest iteration of the company’s flagship Asian-market sedan, which has now arrived at Chinese dealerships.

The base 2021 LaCrosse will use a mild hybrid system. Yes, the carmaker made a perfect combination of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a small electric motor-generator, which draws power from a 0.45-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. As you may conclude, the electric motor is too small for any independent driving. Instead, it recovers braking energy and provides extra torque when is needed. The drivetrain delivers 194 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque, which is enough for the exceptional driving experience. Plus, you will get the almost class-leading fuel economy of around 25 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 29 mpg. Yes, we almost forget to mention that the engine comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

In case you thought there is nothing else new, think again because the 2021 Buick LaCrosse is also getting the improved V6 option. No, the engine won’t get more power. The 3.6-liter mill will stay at its usual 310 horsepower, yet in place of the current eight-speed automatic gearbox, the carmaker will slip in a newline-speed auto transmission. In addition, all-wheel drive will not be available just with the top Premium trim, but also with the Essence.

Four new exterior paints

As we mentioned earlier, the large sedan will get several new color options. More precisely, it will cancel Crimson Red Tintcoat, Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic, Graphite Gray Metallic, and Dark Forest Green Metallic in favor of Satin Steel Metallic, Black Cherry Metallic, Dark Slate Metallic, and Red Quartz Tintcoat.
