2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Will Have A Mild-Hybrid Powertrain

Jeep is getting ready to introduce an updated version of its compact SUV at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. The new Cherokee will host a few cosmetic changes inside and out, but that’s not as important as they are performance improvements. We’ve seen several prototypes so far. This time, however, the carmaker isn’t testing the regular model, but the off-road 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.

The spy shots are pointing out several new things. There is a completely new front bumper with a pair of red hooks and as many fog lamps, which sit higher than earlier. Higher, the new Cherokee Trailhawk features redesigned LED headlights. The lights look significantly different and they seem to be positioned a bit lower. The crossover will look far more attractive thanks to the new Y-shaped wheels and redesigned rear bumper, which is also featuring a hook (red of course). The rear hatch sports larger taillights and new exhaust system.

The latest spy shots don’t provide any information regarding the interior. Though, the cabin will definitely look notably different. Jeep will add almost twice a bigger infotainment touchscreen, which will be in charge of more options inside. The dash will likely get HVAC vents on sides and perhaps a few new styling details.

There is a big chance to see a new powertrain under the hood. Moreover, we are sure it’s going to use Jeep’s latest mild-hybrid setup. The system combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 48-volt mild hybrid, which should be good for 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of twist. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk will feature an improved all-wheel-drive system that’s going to come in a pair with a new nine-speed auto gearbox. Jeep hasn’t provided any information regarding the rest of the lineup, yet we are sure that the refreshed crossover is going to keep the current base 2.4-liter four-cylinder. On the other hand, the V6 should get a start-stop aid to improve its efficiency.
