2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB Spied: Info, Engines, Spy Shots, Platform

We all do know that Mercedes works on an all-new GLB SUV. The vehicle is reportedly going to be a baby, cheaper, version of the amazing G-Class. Well, we have to disappoint you, because this is not going to be the case. Moreover, aside from the body design, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is not going to share anything else with the iconic nameplate.

Even though it sounds bad right away, the 2020 GLB is not going to be as a disappointment as it seems so at first glance. The compact crossover may not be a baby G-Class, but it’s going to be a pretty good option. The carmaker will offer both five- and seven-seat options, as well as a really big number of engines.

There’s nothing official regarding the mills. However, according to the latest reports some markets will get two four-cylinder oil-chugging units with a power range between 150 and 190 horsepower. There’s a big possibility to see one borrowed diesel unit as well. If everything goes according to Mercedes’ plans, the 2020 GLB will reportedly use a super-strong 1.5-liter diesel from Renault.

The gasoline model will have a larger range of power for sure. The SUV will mostly use four-cylinder engines. The base option is going to use a 2.0-liter turbo which will be capable to deliver 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The range-topping version should, on the other hand, double the power. The German car manufacturer will not forget to add a few plug-in hybrids as well, though the crossover will probably get an all-electric powertrain by the end of 2021 as well. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission should be in charge of most of the engines.

Although completely boxy as the G-Class, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is not going to share the same face with the iconic off-roader. Instead, as you can see, the SUV will get an uncommon hood and its own grille. The grille is not going to be the only mesh-treated part of the SUV. No, the air intake seems to be the same. A pair of headlights appears to be ready and full-LED. Around back, the compact vehicle hosts two bullets in place of taillights. Just kidding, but the taillights look pretty much the same as bullets, don’t you agree.

The overall SUV looks pretty massive, wide and long, so there should be enough space inside. Moreover, MFA2 architecture has proven already to be good, so we have no doubts about the space, both passenger and cargo. Still, it refers to the two-row five-seat model. On the other hand, the seven-seat version may not have thus generous space, especially for the third row of seating. When we speak of generosity, we have to mention that the SUV is going to be very lavish inside. But that’s pretty usual for Mercedes. We have not all the details right now, yet the new MBUX infotainment system is a safe bet even now.
