2022 Acura RDX: New Spy Shots and More Information

The 2022 Acura RDX features lively and athletic handling, a long list of standard features, and a high-quality, stylish cabin. However, its below-average reliability rating and absence of a more powerful engine option drag it to the middle of our luxury compact SUV rankings.

Thanks to the spy photos and other sources, we have an idea about the 2022 Acura RDX update. Although this is not going to be a total redesign, the 2021 model year will bring a really radical makeover. Bold new appearance, redesigned interior, new engine range, and the latest technology will undoubtedly push the 2021 RDX further away from the current model and from its mid-price-range cousin, Honda CR-V.

One of the common speculations and rumors about the 2022 Acura RDX that might turn out to be true is that the major update of the mid-size crossover is going to raise the bar even more than anticipated. It’s true that the crossover needed an update – especially after the new CR-V showed up with its smug design and upscale technology – but the automaker’s intention to finally establish Acura as one of the top-notch premium brands might come to an end after the 2021 RDX premiere (probably scheduled for one of the biggest auto shows this fall).

The appearance of the 2021 Acura RDX will resemble the current one, but there would be nothing more than just a resemblance. Despite the current trends, the design team decided to go with a boxier body this time. Of course, we’re not talking about the new RDX being Pilot-eque, but there’s no doubt the crossover is going to have its corners accentuated and the entire appearance to be bolder and tougher.

The new front grille and other Acura’s distinctive details will certainly be utilized to contribute to the modern look, but the 2021 RDX is going to be specific thanks to its sporty styling features, not without a slight dose of refinement a luxury crossover simply must-have.

Having in mind that the revised body design provided more free space inside, the interior of the new RDX is going to be more spacious. The interior suffered its own makeover, according to our sources, but the thing is, no one has a clue about how intense the makeover was. Read More

One of the reliable telltales of the automaker’s intentions is the Honda CR-V. Since the RDX must beat its cousin by every and any parameter, we can be confident that the interior is going to be something special regarding the design, materials, and technology implemented as well.

Although the engine range is still secret, well-informed sources claim that the 2021 Acura RDX is going to lose its 3.5-liter V6. Apparently, the updated RDX is going to inherit a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, probably the one installed under the hood of the Type R, as the brand’s contribution to the worldwide trend of downsizing.

We honestly doubt that – even if they decide to go with the 2.0-liter engine at all – the mid-size crossover is going to be treated with the same output power as the Type R, since the later really needs its 310 horsepower in order to be a hot hatch. Our estimate is that the 2021 RDX will have a decent, moderate output, but no way less than 220 horsepower. There’s going to be a hybrid version of the crossover as well.
