2019 Acura RDX: Production Prototype Caught Almost Naked

Aura has introduced the new RDX crossover in a concept for at the last Detroit Auto Show. The production model will arrive a bit later this year, so it should become available in showrooms this summer. The concept vehicle was basically a preview of the 2019 Acura RDX, which means that the production model won’t look too different. As a matter of fact, it will share pretty much everything. We know this because our photographers have managed to catch a pre-production prototype a few hours ago. As you can see, the crossover is not hiding anything at all and mirrors a number of exterior details.

Redesign and features

The third-generation RDX will definitely keep the diamond grille untouched. It’s pretty much the same story with the attractive headlights, though the prototype lacks the concept’s fog lamps and chrome window trim. On the other hand, the SUV is still looking petty slime thanks to a sloped roofline and it still rides on 21-inch alloy wheels. The 2019 RDX will be mated to the Acura-exclusive platform which will cut some weight and add a few inches here and there at the same time. More precisely, the crossover will get 2.5 inches in length and 1.2 inches in width. This will boost both passenger space and cargo volume. Speaking of the new interior, aside it will grow the cabin of the 2019 Acura RDX will also host some new technologies. The vehicle will host a 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen which will rely on the Android operating system. The carmaker will keep dual analog gauges and a three-spoke steering wheel.

Under the hood

Acura’s second bestselling nameplate will use a totally different powertrain as well. In place of the current 3.5-liter V6 unit, the crossover will get a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. The unit delivers 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque under the hood of the new Accord, but the carmaker might add a few horses to the crossover in order to surpass today’s option. The vehicle will stay a front-wheel-drive-based option, yet the potential buyers could get an all-wheel-drive setup as well, which is going to be a far better choice because it offers Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system and adaptive dampers with Sport, Sport+, Comfort, and Snow modes. A 10-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters will be the only available gearbox.

2019 Acura RDX Price range

The all-new 2019 Acura RDX will go on sale this summer. The base model will still cost less than $40,000, while the AWD RDX should be priced around $50,000. Read More
