Ford is slowly building its hybrid and EV strategy. The car manufacturer announced earlier that they are working on Mustang and F-150 hybrids. They also hinted at the arrival of 13 electrified vehicles in the next four years, though they haven’t said which 13 models will get hybrid or electric powertrains. Before Ford’s best-selling nameplate and pony car get their hybrid drivetrain, the carmaker will likely introduce two pairs of hybrids by the end of 2019.
The first pair will be the 2020 Expedition Hybrid and Navigator Hybrid. The full-size SUV siblings will host a quite simple powertrain. More precisely, they will get help from an integrated electric motor/transmission. The mild-hybrid help will provide a low-speed electric drive and regenerative braking. The features should boost the existing efficiency for at least 10 percent, which is not bad at all.
The second pair of hybrids will be Ford’s Escape crossover and the Lincoln MKC. As you probably know, this is not the first there will be the Escape Hybrid. However, the new gasoline-electric drivetrain should be far more efficient than earlier. Plus, in contrast to the Expedition and Navigator Hybrids, the smaller crossover will host a significantly more efficient engine-motor combination. Of course, both will feature a plug-in hybrid technology.
Speaking of which, Blue Oval will add the Transit Custom van plug-in hybrid next year, as well as the first-ever Ford EV SUV by 2020.
