Feast your eyes with the latest spy shots of the completely redesigned 2018 Volkswagen Touareg. The prototype is losing its camouflage pretty rapidly, so it might arrive very soon. After the automaker added the all-new three-row Atlas crossover and introduced the restyled Tiguan, they decided to bring some changes for the interesting Touareg, so the new generation model could be ready very soon, perhaps sooner than we think.
Changes and Improvements
The latest spy shots bring some quite interesting details on the table. The 2018 Touareg features a number of exterior changes, which are rising to the surface. For instance, the front end is getting a dynamic look, which appears to be largely borrowed from the fascinating T-Prime Concept GTE. Also, there will be a few additional inches in the length and width, so there should be more interior space as well. As a matter of fact, the cab will be more spacious without any doubt. However, SUV’s comfort won’t be boosted just with more leg-room, but with a range of new features. Yes, aside of the new and better quality materials, the 2018 Volkswagen Touareg would also get some semi-autonomous features and an all-digital instrument cluster.
What’s Happening Under The Hood
The exterior layout won’t be the only new thing here. VW’s amazing SUV is also getting a range of great engines. The carmaker could add a 2.0-liter four-cylinder for the first time, but the most interesting mill here is a 3.0-liter TSI. In contrast to the base inline-4 that’s going to have 248 horsepower, the amazing V6 will be capable of delivering at least 300 ponies. The carmaker will also introduce a hybrid version sometime later. The option could get from 375 to 400 hp. No matter which engine you choose, you will get a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. Now, the US marker won’t see any oil-burner, but this doesn’t mean that the SUV is coming without that option. There will be a 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel with around 220 hp and 350 lb-ft of twist.
The new engines will be less thirsty than before because of the new architecture. This so-called new generation MLB platform will shed some important weight, which will definitely improve SUV’s fuel economy. Unofficially, the next generation Touareg will lose around 440 lbs, which is really impressive.
According to the newest reports, the 2018 VW Touareg will definitely get a higher starting price, so we think it might start at $51,000.
