We heard plenty of rumors about the comeback of the Toyota Supra, yet this time we are sure it’s really happening. This is because we already saw several early testing models on the road. Moreover, we got a video, so you can check out the abilities of the upcoming 2019 Toyota Supra.
PLATFORM AND ENGINE OPTIONS
If you remember, the previous Supra model sheared its platform with BMW’s Z4, and since the German carmaker works on the successor, it’s pretty clear that this will be a new collaboration among these two car manufacturers. However, we don’t know too much about the new architecture at the moment. The only change we see is the new and larger proportions of the sports coupe. Still, if you believe rumors, both the new Supra and BMW Z5 will borrow the all-new underpinning from the BMW 6-series. In any case, the Japanese carmaker will definitely use multi-material construction, which will make the model ultra-light and rigid.
Toyota’s powertrain department should not offer just one engine as earlier. It’s very possible to see some four- and six-cylinder options borrowed from the German partner. Still, the most impressive option will be a hybrid drivetrain without any doubt. The system will use a 3.5-liter engine and one or two electric motors, which will be good for 400 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.
EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR CHANGES
We haven’t spied any production-ready model of the new generation Toyota Supra, so we can’t see for sure in what direction will go the styling. However, judging by the spy shots we have, the future sports coupe will largely resemble the amazing FT1 concept. Of course, the bodywork will be toned down, which means there will be no that big pop-up spoiler, or this ultra-aggressive front end. On the other hand, the 2019 Toyota Supra will likely get a bit larger wing.
Supra’s cab should look very impressive and unique. We already saw some parts of the interior, but it doesn’t mean there will be no some additional changes on the production model. Anyway, the prototype shows all new bespoke instrument cluster and sporty steering wheel. The high performance car will also get sports seats and pedals, as well as leather upholstery, contrast stitching, and aluminum accents.
ESTIMATED PRICE AND ARRIVAL
The 2019 Toyota Supra should come sometime in 2018, possibly in the second half. The manufacturer hasn’t say anything official regarding the possible price, but the first estimates say that the outstanding coupe could start form $40,000.
