Land Rover’s ultra-luxurious and the biggest model is getting ready to receive a mid-cycle facelift and more. We say “more” because the British carmaker also prepares something completely new under the hood. According to the latest reports, the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover will definitely get an all-new plug-in hybrid powertrain, which will make it more efficient from today’s options.
The 2018 Range Rover Hybrid will combine the carmaker’s new Electric Drive Module and a four-cylinder gasoline engine. The new Ingenium produces around 295 horsepower, while the electric part of the drivetrain should make some serious help with its 201 ponies and 332 lb-ft of twist. Of course, the powerplant will be mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, while the lithium-ion battery should be stored under the boot floor. The carmaker hasn’t said anything regarding the electric driving range, but we think that the SUV will be able to cross at least 30 miles without any help from the gasoline engine.
The refreshed vehicle will likely keep the other engines mostly unchanged. There might be a few additional ponies here and there, but essentially, the options will be the same. The base 2018 Land Rover Range Rover will use a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that with 340 horsepower, while the diesel model should keep the turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 with 254 ponies. The testing model you see sports several styling changes as well. The automaker has hidden the complete exterior, yet we are sure that the 2018 Range Rover won’t get any revolutionary redesign. Instead, they will make some updates at the ends, and perhaps they’ll add several new color options. Except it hides redesigned grille and new headlights, the camouflaged front end will also have a charging port. In the rear, the SUV features a restyled bumper and new taillights that appear to be bigger from the current. Of course, the manufacturer will not miss the chance to upgrade the interior, so we expect updated infotainment, maybe new upholstery, and definitely more standard equipment.
