2018 Mini Convertible Spied Refreshed: There Might Be A Hybrid Powertrain Under The Hood

As you can see from these spy shots, both 2018 Mini Convertible is receiving a subtle facelift. The exterior changes appear to be very discrete. Moreover, we are pretty sure that we would not be able to notice what’s new that the carmaker didn’t use the camouflage.

The 2018 Mini Convertible will get just a pair of new, or better to say, restyled headlights in the front, and the revised taillights in the rear. Although the testing model doesn’t show any other change, the interesting car might feature a few additional styling tweaks such as restyled bumpers and different wheel designs. Of course, the British car manufacturer will add at least one totally new color option.

The drop-top Mini will also feature a few new details inside. We haven’t seen the new cabin, yet you can expect pretty much the same technologies and materials as it has the new Countryman. Plus, the automakers won’t miss the chance to add an updated infotainment system and new trim options.

Performance-wise, the refreshed 2018 Mini Convertible will most likely keep its inline-3 and -4 engines untouched. If they decide to change anything, that’s going to be the topping 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that currently delivers 228 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. Yes, the refreshed 2018 Mini Convertible might have even more power, but don’t expect anything over 235 ponies. Read More

The most interesting part of this mid-cycle refresh will be the 2018 Mini Convertible Hybrid. As we have found out, the manufacturer is reconsidering to add the plug-in hybrid powertrain that made the official debut under the hood of the 2017 Mini Cooper S E Countryman. If this actually happens, the new drop-top model will get a system that uses a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine to keep and recharge the battery that collects all kinetic energy from braking. Since Mini’s crossover provides a 25-mile pure electric range, the lighter 2018 Mini Convertible might be able to cross all 30 miles.

Anyway, the refreshed model will be introduced before next summer, which is more than enough time to find out whether there is a hybrid drivetrain under the hood or no.
